CMOH Orders: Severe Acute Hepatitis in Children and Monkeypox On May 20, Ontario's Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH) Dr. Kieran Moore sent a memo to all public hospitals regarding a revised Order issued under the Health Protection and Promotion Act (HPPA), requiring all public hospitals to report cases of severe acute hepatitis in children of an unknown origin to Public Health Ontario (PHO). Revisions to the order include an update to the case definition. For more details, please read the memo (French version) and Order (French version). On the same day, the CMOH also sent a memo to Public Health Units and all healthcare providers, including hospitals, requesting vigilance around patients presenting with symptoms that are consistent with monkeypox virus infection, especially if they have had travel or contact with a known case. The memo shares information on monkeypox, including common symptoms and guidance. The CMOH also issued an Order under section 77.6 of the HPPA requiring all physicians, nurse practitioners, persons who operate a group practice of physicians or nurse practitioners, hospitals, and regulated health professionals who practice at public hospitals to report any individual who meets the case definition (in Appendix A) of monkeypox virus to PHO. For more information and details on reporting requirements, please read the memo, Order and PHO's Infection Prevention and Contro Recommendations for Monkeypox in Health Care Settings.
